Mandolin labelled "THE / CONCERT-MANDOLIN / MADE BY / L.ROMITO e CARBONE, Naples / No.101 Year.... / Certified Genuine and Correct / G.B.Marchisio (signature)" also labelled "MANUFACTURED IN ITALY / KEITH PROWSE / LONDON" also engraved on a plaque on the head "MARCHISIO'S / PATENT" made c.1890. Length 62.0cm. The alumium bars around backwere to hold the mandolin away from the player's body, in theory, this would increase the resonance. Scratchplate of maple.

Repaired crack in table. G.B.Marchisio came to London, from Italy and, from 1892 was professor of mandolin and guitar at Trinity College and the Guildhall School of Music. There is no record of Marchisio having taken out a British Patent. Sometimes inventors claimed a Patent to discourage copying by other manufacturers.
