Zylophone with wooden bars resting on straw (The Gigelira) made in England c.1900. Each side 49.0cm long by 25.5cm maximum width. Signed on the back (twice) "Tuned by Mme Sidney Pratten / 22a Dorset Street Portman Sq W / London. In original box (surface covering restored in places) with instructions and engraved view of instrument pasted in, with board to lay instrument on.
Mrs Pratten was famous as a guitar player and teacher in the second half of the 19th century.

In worn condition. Lacks catches holding the two halves together.
